About Flagstones
Flagstones are natural stones, not man-made products. The difference between concrete or brick pavers and flagstones is the place of production: concrete and clay brick pavers are manufactured whereas flagstones are produced from natural stone deposits. Flagstone paving provides a naturally charming landscape environment, a very desirable treatment for any outdoor landscape garden areas such as courtyards, patios, walkways, pool decks, stepping stones and walkways. The purpose of having flagstones installed is to blend in nature. Flagstones create a dynamic, classic or timeless look to any landscape garden. Flagstones are safe for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. They have a non-skid surface even when the stones are wet. Flagstones are characteristically a very dense material. It is also known to be a low-absorption type of paving material. These factors make flagstones impervious to freeze-thaw conditions. Flagstone pavers will not split or deteriorate under extreme weather conditions. The main benefit of utilizing such colors is the guarantee that the colors cast throughout the stone paver will not fade, chip or scratch off. Different types of flagstone, including quartzite, slate, limestone, travertine and bluestone, reap different colors. Flagstones are acid resistant; normally set on a base of crushed rocks and sand or they can be set straight on top of soil without the need for a base. The gaps between the stones are often filled with sand or planted with low ground covers. Although stone paving is considerably more expensive than the concrete paver alternatives, or the increasingly popular block paving, it does have a cachet that no other form of paving can offer. It has an indefinite life-span and should never need to be replaced.
