Paving stones are a practical yet attractive option anywhere on the property and also stand up to the Pacific Northwest's weather better than poured concrete, stamped concrete or asphalt. Paving stones withstand the high heat of summer as well as freezes and thaws of winter. Paving stones have joints that can expand and contract resistance to surface cracking. Pavers are virtually maintenance-free and do not need to be regularly sealed or replaced. One of the biggest advantages of choosing pavers for pavement is that if a repair ever does become necessary, stained or broken pavers can be easily replaced without ugly patches, by just removing and re-installing new pavers. This is not true of asphalt, poured concrete, or stamped concrete. On both vehicular and pedestrian applications pavers have a non-skid surface even when the pavers are wet they are safe to walk or drive a vehicle over them.

Choosing Your Type of Paver
The type of pavers you choose determines cost of materials and installation because they differ in application, design, technical standards and more.

Concrete pavers:
Are made of cement, aggregate, pigments and dyes. The color selection of concrete pavers is very broad and, depending on the manufacturing process, can hold up for a very long time. Color sealants may also be used to prevent concrete pavers from losing their color. Concrete pavers do cost less than brick and natural stone pavers because the raw materials cost less to produce. They are also very strong and will work for driveways and even roads.

Brick pavers : Are made from clay and shale materials and cost slightly more than concrete pavers due to their higher material cost and manufacturing process. They are also called Clay pavers because they contain the raw material of clay. These raw materials are then set and baked at up to two thousand degrees at the manufacturer’s plant. These raw materials have their own natural properties that make them ideal for producing hard wearing and extra strong brick paver products. Brick paver colors have a deepness and warmth because they contain the natural color of the clay and shale materials and will maintain their true color for a very long time.  There are a limited number of colors. The colors of the clay paver are earthy, from light, moderate and darker red tones. They do not have the extensive color variety offered by concrete pavers.

Stone Pavers:
Are made by Mother Nature over millions of years of natural formation and are extracted from the earth at stone quarries. They’re not made at the manufacturing plant. Stone Pavers are undeniable for adding natural beauty. They enhance your home surroundings and landscaped gardens. There is a wide selection of charming colors, shapes and patterns for you to choose from. Stone Pavers are more expensive because they have to be mined from the earth at stone quarries and thus will be higher priced than brick and concrete pavers. Granite Limestone, Sandstone, and Slate are the most common Stone Pavers. Stone Pavers have limited applications due to their hardness, strength and density issues. Example, granite stone pavers are strong enough for driveway paving, whereas blue stone pavers would not be strong enough for driveway paving. Patio, pool deck and sidewalk applications are more suited to Stone Pavers.
