Restoration
Lawns turn brown or rotten and die in
certain spots as a result of lack of water or nitrogen, drainage
problems, insects, or sod contamination. Some spot problems can
be corrected without replacing the entire yard. For these lawns that
need to be restored, their topsoil might not need to be replaced. It
may only need to be enriched.
New
When we install new lawn, we provide a
standard 3-ways topsoil which contains compost, sandy loam, and peat
moss to ensure that the grass will flourish. Normally, we place 4 to
6 inches high of 3-ways topsoil in the area. If you would like to
install an irrigation
system, the best
time to do this is before the new sod is placed on the ground.
Sod or HydroSeed?
Hydroseed is required high management
and maintenance costs, compounded by increased water and chemical
applications, as well as delay of use, poor uniformity and visually
unappealing are trade-offs for lower installation cost. Sod
Installation costs offset by added values of timing, usability,
uniformity and visual appeal. Reduced maintenance, chemical and
water costs. We recommend sod for homeowners who have small lawn
areas less than 2000sq.ft., because there is not so much money
saving for such small area. On sloping area where erosion is a
problem, lawns must be established at times unfavorable for seeding
and where an attractive, functional lawn is needed right away.

Not recommended for Winter or Summer, possible in Spring, best in
Fall for most areas. |

Deeply till soil, add necessary amendments or place
4" high of 3-ways topsoil, fertilizers, grade and level
for smooth surface, lightly pack and moisten. |
|
|
|
|
High water needs. keeping surface moist until the turf is well established. |
|
|
|
|
|
Multiple applications of chemicals usually required to combat
competitive weed invasions until turf is well established. |
Minimal, if any chemical control required. |

Seeding varieties, rates, germination times, wash-outs (erosion),
traffic, feeding birds and rodents can create spottiness. |
|
|
|
|
|
Heavy rains or sloping areas will cause seed, chemicals and silt to
wash onto sidewalks, flowerbeds and into sewer systems. Little, if
any protection for several months. |

Colored mulches act to camouflage soil appearance |

|
|
Low traffic use 2 to 4 months after seeding with faster germinating
seed. Normal to high use only after first year. |
